Traffic Exchange 101
A quick tutorial

A traffic exchange is a website traffic delivery service that provides a system for webmasters, website owners, and internet marketers to exchange visitors with each other.

     A traffic exchange site like
Savvy Clicks receives submissions of websites daily. The person who submitted the website then browse other member sites on the exchange program to earn credits, which enable their sites to be viewed by other members through the exchange system. This increases site exposures for everyone involved.

Traffic exchanges generally enforce a 2:1 or 3:1 credit ratio, meaning members earn 0.5 or 0.33 in credit for visiting one member site, and each credit is translated to one page view for them. However, at Savvy Clicks, better ratios such as 1:1, can be achieved through our surfing bonus reward system. 1:1 surfing ratios can also be obtained through purchasing one of our Monthly Ad Packages.

Most traffic exchange also impose a time limit when members are surfing, ranging from 5 seconds to 15 seconds. The person viewing your site has to stay on your site for a predetermined amount of time before he can move on to the next site. Savvy Clicks currently employs a 7 seconds viewing time.

Almost all traffic exchange programs are free to join. However, Savvy Clicks offer special features and monthly credit bonuses for upgraded members. F
or example, our Yearly Pro members receive a separate free membership to our traffic coop, Savvy Co-op. Upgraded members also enjoy special discounts, up to 30% off,  on all credit purchases.

How NOT to Advertise on a Traffic Exchange

Traffic exchange programs are mostly used by small business owners or online marketers who either want free advertising or use the exchange programs for low-budget advertisement campaigns. Advertising on traffic exchanges is similar to advertising on TV in that you only have a few seconds to try to get your message across.

NEVER try to sell anything on a traffic exchange. If you are advertising a standard affiliate page, your home page, or your sales page, you will most surely fail. Remember to whom you are advertising, other surfers, who have probably seen that same affiliate page you are advertising a hundred times over from some other members who are in the same program as you. And have you ever bought anything online with a window of 30 seconds or less? Why then would you expect others to?

How to Advertise on a Traffic Exchange

The key to successfully advertise on a Traffic Exchange is to differentiate yourself from the pack, provide key information about your product, and to capture leads. The best way to accomplish this is to advertise a page specifically designed to catch the user's attention. These are generally call opt-in page, splash page or squeeze page. Here is an example of a squeeze page:

This is extremely important because, like a television commercial, you only have about 10-30 seconds to capture your viewers attention before they change the channel, or in this case, move on to the next site.

Designing Your Squeeze Page

A successful squeeze page will have these characteristics:

1.      Load Fast - Remember, you only have about 10-30 seconds before the user move on to the next site. Keep in mind over 50% of users are still on Dial-up. If your pages do not load by then, you would have wasted your hard earned credits.

2.      Stand out from the crowd - You can not just put up a standard affiliate page and call yourself a network marketer. You must brand yourself and make yourself known. People rarely buy or join a program from a total stranger. They do so from people whom they trust. Adding a picture and/or include a brief bio of yourself is a good way to personalized the squeeze page.

3.      Provides the users with key information about your service or product - Have you ever try to read those long affiliate pages in ten seconds? Moreover, would you even want to, after you have already seen it a hundred times over? Make it short, sweet and to the point. Leave no doubt in your viewers mind exactly what products you are selling and what services you are providing.

4.      Capture name and or email address - I highly recommend having some sort of form to capture your viewers name and email. Once you have successfully captured a lead, you can then sell to your lead at a later time, either through your auto responder or your newsletter.

5.      Call for Action - This is probably the most important aspect of creating a splash page. Some where on your splash page you MUST ask your viewers to do something, whether it is to buy your product or join your program, or something as simple as "Click Here for more information", or "Fill in your Name and Email"....etc. If you do not ask for it, you most likely will not get it.

The above steps are designed with a singular purpose, to build a customer base for your business. "The money is in the list" is not just a cliché. It is a proven methodology for successful Traffic Exchange marketers.

I highly recommend using Robert Puddy's InstantSqueezePageGenerator. It is one of the best tool around for creating your own personal squeeze pages.  You don't  need to know html, you do not have to have your own hosting. The squeeze pages you create will be hosted on Robert's own dedicated server, and, best of all, it is completely free to use.
